Since a lot of you are off work in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King Day, we would like to include the Emperor in the celebration. So come in today as Emperor Norton Imperial Stout will be $1 off for M.L. King Day. Of course, we just released the Emperor for growler fills last week, so get some here, and take some to go – maybe you can even share.
Plymouth’s popular Ice Festival is this weekend, so come in to warm up with a delicious craft beer after viewing the ice sculptures downtown.
Then on Saturday the 21st, we will host the east side (of the state) release of the new CD from The Northern Skies. Following a sellout crowd at Founder’s in Grand Rapids (the band’s home base), they bring the music from the new album, “Thick As Thieves”, to Liberty Street. This is an all ages show, and as usual, there is no cover.

Everybody has been asking what we would make for our Christmas beer this year, and what we have come up with is a nice stout that has been infused with blueberries and vanilla for a fruited smoothness that compliments the beer.

Berry Vanilla Stout

will have it on the taps on Tuesday the 20th, and it will probably only last until this weekend, so be sure to come by and try it.
Another common request is a wheat beer, and though that would be considered out of season, we have accommodated by making the heartier

Wheat & Rye ESB

which should be on tap just before the turn of the year. Then just after recovery from the new year celebration, we hit you with one of our favorites –

Emperor Norton

, an Imperial Stout made to warm you from the inside out.

Our 3rd anniversary (today) came and went with little fanfare this year due to increased responsibilities at the brewery. Liberty Street started small distribution in 2009 and with increased popularity in the tasting rooms, we had to reduce that production so we wouldn’t run out at home where our customers deserve to have the first availability to our beer. This move does not reduce the amount of demand for our product across the state, so with the brewhouse at maximum capacity for more than two years, we needed to look outside for production capacity. We examined partner brewing in other larger brewhouses, and even began preliminary investigations into building and operating a production brewery of our own. We have been most fortunate to have a partner brewery to work with now, and have very high hopes for the acceptance of our beer across the state in many more restaurants and bars than before. This initial push will be in draft accounts as an introduction to the market on a larger scale – look for LSBC at a better beer bar near you, as we will be doing special release parties to promote our new bigger step into the Michigan craft beer market.
This distribution will be accompanied by new logos for the first four brands that are being produced. See our website (coming soon) for label images of our first four brands; Red Glare Amber Ale, Steamy Windows, Starkweather Stout, and The American IPA. Along with the posters and labels, we also have a new custom tap handle being developed for our brand. Believe me when I say that this tap handle will be first noticed on ANY row of craft beer handles.
So, about the beer – Pub House Brown was tapped this morning and is just as light and refreshing as usual. We will also be bringing back a recent favorite from this summer with our Emperor Norton – Russian Imperial Stout. C Monster is almost gone since we have released it for growler sales, so if you haven’t had it from this batch, you should at least get down here and try it.
Other up coming beers to tap at LSBC are Wheat & Rye ESB and a special blend of our stout with blueberries and vanilla named Berry Vanilla Stout. Also scheduled is a new (honey) bock recipe to be tried at LSBC named Pollinator.
Tuesdays at Liberty Street, join us as we host Motor City Trivia in the Upper Hall for 8-Ball Trivia. It is free to play, and you can win prizes and have a lot of fun, all while enjoying a 10% discount on all menu items during trivia. The game starts at 7 pm, so don’t miss the first question.
Thursday the 15th, we host the Plymouth District Library for Books On Tap. Come and share your opinions and experiences from reading “The Stupidest Angel: A Heartwarming Tale of Christmas Terror,” by Christopher Moore. You can still get a copy from the library with enough time to read it now.
To better communicate our holiday schedule, I figured I better clear it up now. Of course we will be closed on Christmas (Sunday the 25th), but we will be open on Saturday (Christmas Eve) until no later than 9 pm as allowed by law. We will open at the normal time of 11 am that day, so you may want to at least come by to stock up on growlers for the weekend.
Which brings me to one last note of importance. I would like to welcome and introduce Tom Hudak to the team at LSBC as a brewer and cellarman. He has been putting most of his effort (and talent) into providing our graphics for the aforementioned posters, which will be used for labels for our bottling distribution to come this spring. I know that we have seriously cut into his homebrewing hobby, but his skills are much needed, and greatly appreciated, here.

That’s right, C Monster makes it’s return to the taps at Liberty Street Brewing Company next week on Wednesday. This is traditionally the busiest bar day of the year, and we just made it a much bigger deal. This beer originated as an Imperial IPA with a higher ABV than the current (9.5%), but every bit as hoppy as the original. Using all seven of the “C” hops in this beer makes a very resiny and citrusy ale that goes down easy with a biting hop presence and clean finish. This is one of those big batches that just won’t last long at all, so make sure you come by and get some for yourself.
And speaking of fresh beer… we just tapped a new batch of both the Red Glare Amber Ale and Punkin’ Pie Ale just this afternoon. Plenty of these to go around so enjoy it as much as you’d like.

Saturday morning, the 5th at 9am, Liberty Street Brewing will host The Sons of Liberty as they present “Learn to Homebrew Day” in the back parking area of the brewery. Several members will be demonstrating brewing techniques ranging from beginner level to advanced brewing. This is a rain or shine event, so stop by to see what the homebrewing hobby is all about.
On Sunday November 6, Liberty Street Brewing Company will release a beer brewed in honor of Friends of the Rouge’s 25th anniversary. The release will be part of Friends of the Rouge’s third annual Rouge Brew, a beer tasting led by Rex Halfpenny of the Michigan Beer Guide. The cost is $35 and includes a souvenir pint glass and snacks provided by Papa Romanos in Plymouth. I don’t know why, but we still have plenty of tickets for this falls beer festival at Eastern Market in Detroit on the 22nd. Last year we sold our allotment six weeks before the event, here we are only two weeks away, and we still have more than half of them. I wouldn’t take this as relaxing information though, and if you are planning to go, I would get them now.
Another item not moving as expected is our gluten free beer (G-Free), and it will be put on sale to help move it off of the taps. This is not your typical commercially available gluten free beer… this one tastes great!
We will be in Downtown Plymouth on Sunday for the 16th Annual Chili Cook Off, and this year we have answered the masses with a chili that has a little more heat to it. There will be several restaurants competing for peoples the choice award, so try ours if you dare, and vote for us if you care.

A good time to do just that would be this Saturday as we host David Winans of the famous Winans Family of Singers from Detroit. This is arguably our biggest show at Liberty Street, so be sure to get here early for a seat.
We still have some of the G-Free left, so those with gluten free diets might want to try this small batch beer before it is gone.

You’ve waited long enough, and we’ve finally brought back our fall/winter seasonal. Punkin’ Pie Ale was just tapped in the tasting rooms, and early reviews are that it is just as delicious as ever. This light amber style ale is spiced with a special blend of spices that make this beer easy to drink. We plan to have this beer on tap throughout the winter until Clementine Lemon Thyme comes back in the spring.
Speaking of Clementine Lemon Thyme… if you want to get one last taste before it is all gone, join us at the DIY Festival in Ferndale September 16th through the 18th where the last of CLT will be poured.
This Thursday the 15th, we host “Backstage Pass” at 7 pm. There will be three members of the brass section being interviewed by the moderator and accepting questions from the audience as well. There is usually a short performance to be enjoyed at the end too, so this is really a fun event… and free.
There has been a rumor going around about our wine license progress, and I would like to take use forum to confirm. We have recently received our approval from the city which, in combination with approvals from the state and federal governments, can now be presented back to the state for licensing. This means that we are in our final leg of this race, and that licensing should be very soon. No date yet, because the state still has plenty of work to do to before licensing us, but we are hopeful to have our cider back immediately.

Come to Liberty Street tonight from 7-9 and enjoy free live trivia while tasting our freshest offering in the style of “Cascadian Dark Ale”. We like to call it a Black IPA, and you will too when you notice that, regardless of color, there is absolutely no roasted or chocolate character normally associated with such dark beers. Hop aromas waft up from the dark foam, and nothing but citrusy bitterness on your tongue ending with a clean aftertaste. This is the first large batch of this recipe that was formulated two years ago for Motor City Trivia in recognition of their game called 8 Ball. Come early and get one while happy hour pricing is still on, and receive 10% off everything while playing trivia in the Upper Hall.
While you play trivia, you can get a sneak preview of our upcoming art show before the Friday night opening at 7pm.
