Liberty Street Beer wins awards at The World Expo of Beer

Leading the bunch, a surprising silver medal goes to Glutenous Minimus in the specialty beer category. This is a beer brewed with no gluten so that all may enjoy it. The specialty beer category had 34 entries, making it one of the toughest categories to be recognized in.

Two of our other beers also received awards in this international competition; Steamy Windows and Liberty One Porter each took bronze medals. Steamy Windows, our California Common style beer, won in the amber hybrid category, and Liberty One Porter won in the porter category. Incidentally, this is not the first award for the Porter, it previously took gold in this same competition (2010), and also gold (2009) and bronze (2011) as the base beer for Tart Cherry Porter.
In consideration of the beers that were fielded for this competition, literally from breweries all over the world, we are very proud of being considered amongst the best. Congratulations to all of the winners, and especially to all the Michigan breweries that were recognized.

A Double Dose of Double IPA’s

We released this years batch of Siamese Dream yesterday in the tasting rooms, and then this Saturday will be the annual release of 42nd Parallel. We plan to bottle some of this, to be sold for carry out. This is an extremely limited batch, and will run out quite rapidly, so be sure to get some while it lasts.

Rye PA and stouts abound

Our Rye PA is on tap now in the tasting rooms, and it is delicious! We only make this beer once a year, and it is always well received. Enjoy what you can now, and next week get it by the growler full so you can share it with friends.
Then this weekend we tap a few more beers that are a little more seasonal. St. Patrick’s Day is this coming Sunday, so we have plenty of stouts to satisfy the Irish in you. On tap for the day will be; Genius Stout, Chocolate Milk Stout, Friendly Stout, and Olde Towne Browne (Stout).
Jim and I will be hosting The Detroit Draft Divas on Saturday afternoon for a private tour, and preview tasting of the Stouts he prepared for the next day. You must be a member of the “Triple D’s” to partake in this special treatment.

Rare live entertainment this Saturday in the Upper Hall

The return of The Delta Twins this Saturday night will include a special guest; Plymouth’s own Nick Klaver on guitar/slide. This is one of only a few live shows for this year at Liberty Street due to increased room rental for private parties in the Upper Hall. Though we love to provide the exposure for local bands, we cannot financially cover it anymore, so future entertainment will be put on hold for now. This show should be a blow out of talented guitars and smooth blues vocals, so be sure to get here early to get a good seat.

You asked for wheat… on tap this Wednesday.

So, that’s what you’re gonna get! We are always asked for a wheat beer from guests that frequent the tasting room, here’s one that won’t disappoint. In preparation of our seasonal spiced wheat beer; Clementine Lemon Thyme, we made a wheat beer that is just straight forward without distractions. Unlike our regular wheat named Amber Waves, which is fermented with a German yeast that imparts banana and clove characteristics, this beer uses just our regular ale yeast strain. And, not to confuse it with either of those two brands, we simply named this beer “You asked for wheat…”.
There is still some 8 Ball IPA on tap, and Pub House Brown is enjoying a welcomed return lately. As previously mentioned, you can expect to see Clementine Lemon Thyme soon as an indicator of winters end. And to let you in on a little secret, Rye PA will be coming soon as well.

Red Velvet on tap today

Looking for a place to take your sweety tonight? Come to Liberty Street Brewing for this years special Valentine’s beer. We take our regular Red Glare Recipe and add chocolate for a rich flavor that is much like Red Velvet cake. This is a very small batch, and will probably only be available today, so be sure to get in and have some before it is all gone.

8 Ball IPA on tap now

With apologies to the beer style purists and English Majors everywhere, we introduce our version of the controversial Black IPA style (literally, black and pale in the same name?!). 8 Ball IPA was originally named for the trivia game hosted here by Motor City Trivia years ago – it’s return has been a popular request for a long time, and this small batch will not last too long so come and try it soon.

Pub House Brown Ale back on tap!

If you remember this old favorite, or if you’ve never heard of it, get in to try it as soon as you can. This legendary beer is no longer a regular at the tasting room, so get it while this “one off” batch is available. Fans may recall it as being a lower alcohol beer, but this batch has been boosted form it’s original 3.25% all the way up to 4.5 – and if it isn’t enough to warm you up in this extreme weather, then get an Emperor Norton while you’re here.

Logjam for Friends of the Rouge

Stop in this Thursday at 6pm for a special re-release of this years Logjam Pale Ale brewed with homegrown hops from the Rouge River drain basin. Members of The Friends of the Rouge will enjoy a special half off discount until this precious beer is gone. You can join while at this event, or just make a donation to the cause.
Then stick around this weekend for the Ice Sculptures! The annual ice sculpture festival is this weekend in downtown Plymouth, and we expect to be extremely busy, as usual. There will be no shortage of warming beverages at the brewery, so stop by and have a pint or two before, or after you see the amazing artwork in ice at Kellogg Park in downtown Plymouth – there may even be a shuttle nearby.

Gift ideas for this holiday season from your favorite brewery

Of course beer would be at the top of most peoples gift list, and we can certainly accommodate that with the purchase of our growlers to go, or a gift certificate to cover a later purchase, and more personal selection. Or perhaps you’d like to get your beer lover the gift of Liberty for the whole year – get our growler refill subscription, and your loved one can enjoy a growler refill once per month until you get them another subscription next year!
Mug Club membership is also a great way to share Liberty as a gift – either annual membership, or lifetime membership will get you 20% off all of your beer purchases at the brewery (including kegs).
And we just received some new merchandise that can be piled under the trees too. There are two different baseball cap style hats, and a beanie to choose from, and then if you need to be a little more classy, then try one of our polo shirts in red, white or blue. The shirts roll up real nice into a Liberty pint glass for better presentation (who needs wrapping paper).
